Medical Transcription Is Not For Everyone

Medical Transcription News

I have said this many times before. Today’s post is just to reiterate the fact that in spite of all its benefits, the medical transcription profession is not for everyone. Why? Let me explain.

The profession is not for those who cannot meet deadlines everyday. You have to meet deadlines everyday. Sometimes, you may be required to deal with deadlines every few hours.

The profession does not work for those who are not comfortable handling the computer and the transcription software. You need not be technologically savvy but you have got to have that comfort level in working with the computer.

Medical transcription is not for those who don’t look at quality seriously. The quality goals in the medical transcription profession require you to have at least 98 percent accuracy in your work with absolutely no critical errors. That’s difficult for many people.

If you cannot remain focused for extended periods of time, this profession is definitely not for you. Here, the work may require you to sit for long periods of time. You cannot afford to lose focus at any point in time.

The medical transcription work can become monotonous and boring over a period of time. You are required to keep yourself motivated. Those who don’t have self-motivation skills won’t do well in the profession.

The profession requires you to keep updating your medical knowledge almost on a daily basis. Now, many people do not like the idea of continuous learning even while working. It will definitely not work for such people.

The profession expects you to work on your own. Yeah, you have got to handle crisis situations on your own, without any supervision. If the thought scares you, don’t join the profession.

Only the most disciplined and committed can make a career of the medical transcription profession.
