The medical transcription training equips you with all the medical knowledge you need for the job and the transcription skills. It even brushes up your knowledge of computer and English grammar. But there are certain skills that the training cannot develop in you. And yet, these skills are extremely important for the medical transcription profession.
- Analytical skill: You can enhance this skill but you cannot create it. So, if yours is not an analytical brain that looks into things with a logical perspective, the medical transcription profession is not a good career choice for you.
- Self-motivation: You won’t have your employer/client motivating you on the job. All the motivation has to come from within you. And this becomes very difficult given the nature of the job.
- Discipline: This one is obvious for any job. And in a job like medical transcription, you cannot survive if you are not disciplined enough. Lack of supervision and the nature of the job make discipline critical for your work.
- Independence: Well, this may sound like the easiest ‘skill’. After all, each of us love being independent. But in medical transcription, independence translates into self-dependence in the stringent terms. You have got to handle everything on your own, even the crisis situations, something that is not everyone’s cup of tea.
- Learning: Yeah, learning too is a skill. And when it comes to this profession, you have to be willing to put in the time and effort in learning on a regular basis.
These skills become an important part of the aptitude required for the medical transcription profession.
