The medical transcription profession is difficult. Oh yeah, you have heard that before, and this blog has told you that again and again. So, why do I make it sound scary when on the other hand, I keep talking about the good things in the profession? Well, that’s because there are certain things that can make medical transcription difficult even for the most disciplined.
The reason I emphasize on finding out if you have what it takes for the profession is to make sure you are cut out for medical transcription. The work may not be that difficult but certain parameters and expectations can make it difficult. I am referring to three things that the profession expects of you.
The profession expects you to meet every deadline. Deadlines are meant to be sacrosanct and more so in this field. You are required to turnaround medical records in 24 hours. Sometime, you may have to deliver records in a matter of a few hours.
Then there are the quality goals. Meeting deadlines is not enough if the quality of your work is bad. The quality goals in the medical transcription work are extremely high with a required accuracy of 98 percent. And when it comes to critical errors, the profession has zero tolerance.
The profession expects a medical transcriptionist to keep updating his/her knowledge base. You have to spend time and effort on learning almost everyday. And this makes the job difficult.
There can be a number of factors that can make the job difficult. That is why, you should know the pros and cons of the medical transcription profession before joining it.
