Home is extremely comfortable, but for someone working from home, the comfort can translate into distractions, affecting his/her work considerably. How do you handle distractions when you are working as a home-based medical transcriptionist? Become more disciplined, but how? Here are some tips.
Make a work routine and stick to it. Inform everyone at home about your working hours and ask them not to disturb you.
When you are working, don’t take breaks to attend to domestic chores. Don’t prioritize anything else over your work.
Don’t let your phone disturb you when you are working. Put your phone on answering mode. You can check your messages when you take a logical break. Make sure your business phone is active though.
When you take those logical breaks during work, don’t prolong them. Don’t give in to the temptation of talking to your friend or reading your favorite magazine when you are still working. Finish all your work and then get to doing what you want to.
Never, never switch on the television during your working hours. I emphasize on this one because the television is one of the biggest factors that can affect your work for worse. You can adjust your work timings according to your favorite show timings. But don’t let work suffer because of the television.
Inform your family, friends, and neighbors about your work timings and tell them that you will be unavailable during that time.
Close all e-mail clients and refrain from getting on the social networking sites during your work hours. Try not to get online unless your work demands.
You will start understanding what distracts you as you begin your work. And you have to avoid them at all costs.
