Working from requires tremendous amount of discipline. In today’s post, we will look at what a medical transcriptionist should do to perform in a home-based transcription job.
Stick to a work routine
Do not work at any hour you feel like. Set up your ‘work hours’ for everyday, and work only during those hours. Give yourself a weekly off and do not take up any work for that day. You may, however, need to work on your ‘off day’ once in a while because of work pressure, do not make it a habit.
Keep work hours separate from home hours
Do not let lines blur between your work time and home time. Make sure you have your ‘office hours’ clearly demarcated from your family and home time.
Make yourself an ‘office’ at home
You cannot work wherever you like to. Not only will it harm your efficiency, your family will not be able to understand that you run an office from home. Make yourself an office space, however small, in a part of the house.
Make family members aware of your work time
You family members may not be able to understand the importance and urgency of your work unless you tell them. Make your spouse/partner aware of your work hours. Also, make your children understand that you have an office at home where you will be devoting a certain number of hours everyday.
Anticipate additional reviews and keep buffer time
Make your work-plan flexible and make space for unplanned reviews. You do not want to dumbstruck when faced with unexpected rounds of reviews. Though this does not happen all the time, you should be prepared.
We’ll be back with some more medical transcription information tomorrow.
